113 year old wassal bricks...what mortar?

Salvaged some old wassal bricks last week from a 113 year old house. What would be a good mix for these old used bricks? I'll probably end up using them for a walkway or patio but was just curious in case i decide to get more creative. Also besides cleaning them what steps would i need to prep the bricks for construction...should they be damp when i slap the mortar on? etc.
