Windows & Siding - do I need to hire a GC?

Hey All,
I have a three story end-unit townhouse with 21 builder grade windows. Before we bought the house, a hail storm came through and storm chasers came in and replaced a lot of the original aluminum siding with vinyl.

Well, ~10 years later, we have several windows with substantial rot in the upper corners, indicating a flashing or other water proofing problem. We also have a poorly flashed main circuit panel that leaks water and air into the house. Also, there is no Tyvek on the home.

So far, I have interviewed three Window/Siding companies. 2 of the 3 companies seem eager to sell me replacement windows, but say the siding "looks fine"; despite being shown the water intrusions. The third seemed ready to do the whole job, but now won't call me back.

My Question:

Should I be interviewing General Contractors instead of Window/Siding companies? It feels like I am barking up the wrong tree and the Window/Siding companies only want the easy part of the job.

Possibly, depending on the extent of any structural damage. Hard to give advise when we canít see what youíre seeing.

Posting some pictures and your general location would help. There are plenty here that can certainly get you pointed in the right direction.

No sense in hiring a GC when your problems will need to be diagnosed by a specialist anyway. You just need to find the right company where you can speak to someone that has expertise in more than just sales. Water infiltration may or may not be addressed by the installation of new windows, it all depends on the methods used, and the origin of the problem.
