Windows for Garage Makeover

Hey There! I've been reading this site for a long time and finally signed up today. This site is fantastic! Great for me to read up on what we want to do and find that we are correct in our ideas. Now, husband and I are doing a garage makeover ourselves.. done everything else well, why not this? We replaced the windows in our brick rancher a few years ago with Target brown vinyl (the brown is inside and outside). Now, Target does not offer brown inside. The garage already has one window replaced and I Really want Brown inside and outside. Sunlight is not an issue: we are in the middle of 18 acres of woods. Plenty of ventilation so mold is not an issue either. We want vinyl, casement, double pane, Low E/Argon filled glass, warm edge spacer, and, of course, a good u value rating. Whew! We also want the size to be 36" wide by 54" high but can go smaller. I didn't think I was asking a lot. So I am asking for opinions and recommendations. Oh, did I mention I don't want to go to the poorhouse either? Thanks ever so much!

Windows for Garage Makeover

The hard part is the color, brown vinyl had lots of problems, so no one offers it anymore. Generally only available in white and almond(beige). There are vinyl paints available.

Thanks for replying, Bill. Yes, brown did have a miriad of problems however it seems that, for the most part, they are solved. With our brick house in the woods, white windows would stick out something terrible and almond is no better. Also, when we bought the house there were brown windows and my husband really liked the effect of looking into the woods without this nasty white border. Target really solved the problem and their windows seemed to be good quality for the money. I spoke to them about the size of the casement and they said that 36" was the widest they sold and that it was good that we wanted 54" as a height because if they made them at 36", they would not make them with a height less than 54". They are concerned with sagging. I did find one company through a dealer in Indianapolis but the price still has my husband choking for air. Over $1,000 each (and that was just the purchase price of the windows themselves). I know they make paint but we all know that is just not an option. Too many problems with painting tracks, etc. As the time gets closer toward purchase time, I suppose I will either have to take the almond or not eat for a year! I was just hoping that someone on here would have some ideas. I remember a manufacturer in Pittsburgh who offered brown through and through but I can't remember his name. Grrr.

Milgard offer's a "chocolate" window. That's a pretty good bet, since Milgard is a reputable company and offer's a good quality window and warranty, as well as having a decent service department.

Take care with vinyl paint and make sure it doesn't void your window warranty if you choose that route!

No, no. No painting. I looked at Milgard's site but there was only 1 dealer I found in Indiana and when I called they put me right onto voice mail. Found one at Home Guard. Reasonably priced .27 U value. Thanks!
