window quality/price advice

I'm in northern NJ and about to start an addition to my 1850 home -- 2 stories, 18X18', bath/laundry/mud downstairs and bedroom upstairs. design is my own. an architect friend recommended wood Kolby windows vs. vinyl and not a fan of andersen. what do you guys think -- and any sense of the price premium in general? I'm starting to get down to brass tacks with the budget. thx as always
