Window Quality opinion ineeded.....

Ellison windows sold by ABC building supply; are they good windows for an average home renovation (not the highest end, but not the lowest)?
Sorry the question is a little vague, I'm still trying to figure out which questions to ask....

Thanks in advance,

DB

I have never heard of them. ABC Supply doesn't sell crap.

....I think they're a subsidiary of Atrium Windows and Doors, out of Nirth Carolina....

I have heard of atrium. There good window. Like I said ABC supply carries good stuff. There not home chepo or blowes. They should also have some simonton's 5500.

Atrium cab be hit or miss across their lines. I'm not familiar with that particular line, but the most objective way to look at the product is the performance ratings. U value and air infiltration are most valuable IMO, along with shgc and dp. The top vinyl products are getting u values around .25-.26, and air infiltration of .01-.05cfm. The more run of the mill and lower end performers will barely hit a .30 u value, and will not even want to talk about AI, although their ratings will be +/- .20.... Every supply house including ABC has some solid stuff and some junk, so you want to look a little bit deeper

Thanks for the replies guys.... so these windows I was looking at; they sound a little inefficient for Western Massachusetts with the following ratings:
U factor .31,
SHGC .26,
"meets Energy Star ratings for North Central, South Central and Southern".

Keep in mind I don't know anything about what those ratings mean, I'm just comparing them to the previously stated ratings....

Thanks for the help....

Roger that.

HomeSealed is correct that Atrium is hit or miss. Not what most guys would consider to be a premium and you are 100% right that the energy numbers there are a bit light for Western MA.

You are Northern and that will not cut muster in your area to be E-star qualified.
