window height ?

what is the current thinking on how close a typical window should be from the floor ?

i have single hungs and they are about 22" from the floor. so placing much of anything in front of it, is not going to be a good idea.

thanx

btw, i am thinking about getting sliding windows to replace these worn out units.

In my book it says anything below 24 from the floor it needs to be tempered glass. I also heard from my inspector it may be changed to 36".

I just hate single hung and sliding windows. A double hung is so much easyer to clean. The sashes just snap out and tip in for cleaning.

Windows that close to the floor is fine but even though it may not be code required (tempered glass), it is a cheap investment in safety.

these windows are close to, if not, 100 years old = painted shut.

i am thinking about sliders. but idk yet.

the reason i ask about the height, is furniture placement. my last place, i had dressers in front of the windows. so i guess i will just go with that.

locally no window can be less than 18" off of the floor when grade outside is more than 24" below the sil of the window.. anything less then either a saftery bar must be infront of it or the operator is up top on it
