When is Tempered Glass required?

I have a sliding glass door in Huntington Beach CA without tempered glass in it. Must I replace it with tempered glass?

Nobody is going to make you replace the door, but if you do decide to do so, you'll need tempered glass. It is really the only way that they are made now anyway, so no big deal.

Are you sure?

If the door is was built after 77 then it's tempered, before that then likely not.

Sometimes the older etchings are impossible to see.

+1

Hold old a unit is it. Can't say I have seen too many still in circulation without tempered glass.

Many companies were already making them that way prior to the actual code mandating it.
