What kind of window used in new construction in the west coast these days?

What is the most popular window type used in new construction these days in moderate/warm/dry places like california?

Is it still aluminum?

It's been 20 years since I last remodeled, so I'm not up to date.

With the expansion/contraction properties of vinyl, it sounds like vinyl will be problematic down the road.

The expansion rate of vinyl is overblown as it pertains to residential window applications, and is typically touted by fiberglass sales-guys. A good quality product is what you are looking for regardless of material. In CA, vinyl, aluminum and fiberglass are all viable options, each with their own pros and cons.

Aluminum is inherently handicapped in the thermal race.

Fiberglass is probably the next most viable alternative if you are looking for non-vinyl options but as HomeSealed pointed out, the expansion argument is drastically overblown.

I always ask customers to start out with what they want the window to look like.

I look at a lot of homes due to my job, i see soooo many vinyl windows it blows my mind. So much so, you would think its all folks do here in CA.
