Water Seeping in Between
 

looking at the windows in my house, none of them have a glass barrier right next to the insect screen, so water can seep in between the screen and the main glass, into what i'm assuming is the wall. is this how these windows are designed?

Go outside and look at the bottom of the window frame. See any drain holes with little flapper type covers on them?
Better yet close and lock the window and mist some water on the glass.
It should rin down and drain out under the bottom of the screen, any extra drains out the built in drains.

most of my windows (installed in 1999) have these vents on the outside and inside.

That's where the water run back out.
Need to make sure those sills stay cleaned off to gett the drains from plugging up.
One reason I like 1/2 screens better then full screens. With 1/2 screens I can remove them easly and just hose the window down from out side.

so these window sills that i have, are completely encapsulated and not exposed to the interior of my walls (plaster)?

what do you mean by 1/2 screens and full? is that what i have, 1/2?

There suppost to have welded seam so the frame become like one piece.
If your screen takes up the whole window frame it's a full screen.

how can i tell if the frame is welded like one piece and not exposed to the interior of the walls? i'm just concerned about water getting into the walls.

also, how do i clean the grooves in the sills? circled in red.

There is no great way to clean them out. That vinyl piece on the sides can be slid up for more room and use a crevis tool on a shop vac, use a pipe cleaner in the other hole.

Have you seen any water getting in on the inside? If not just clean it the best you can and not worry about it.
