Question

Unable to remove slider

Can anybody give me any suggestions about how to remove a sliding door that has been "settled" on, so there's not enough room to lift it free.?.? The door is fine, but I need to put a repair rail under it and would like to replace the rollers. Should I try and jack up the header, cut down the door slightly, trim the track or header......
Also, the wheel adjusters are stuck...

Aluminum door and track, southern Cal. 8' X 36" door

I'm pretty good at solving problems, but would like your input.
Thanks

Sounds like jacking up the header is what need to be done.

But if thats the case then will replacing track and rollers fix the problem? I say this as the clearances don't sound adquate for the door dimensions, forcing the door down onto the track, prematurely wearing the rollers out.

I will be keeping an close watch on this thread as I believe I have a similar situation and it needs to get fixed.

I was thinking of changing out the slider for a hinged door.

Mark

I assume that you cranked the rollers all the way down--?

This is a rental. Then door is fine except that because the center of the track is "beaten down" twice as much as the ends (since both sets of wheels roll across the center) the door is slightly "cocked" and doesn't sit plumb when closed. As I said, the wheel adjusters are "frozen" and won't adjust. If I could get the door out I could repair/replace them.
I've "jacked" a header before, making a piece of 2X4 to fit in the upper track and using a bottle jack. If no one has a better idea that's what I guess I'll have to do.
Was hoping that someone knew of a different way!

By the by...I may be a "Newbie" here but have been doing home repairs for 35+ years!! lol

I had one like that once---I used a Dremmel with a grinding stone and cut two "bites" out of the bottom inside rail---in line with the wheels---I then pried the door up with a couple of flat bars--got the wheels off the track----wheels then passed through the "bite" and finally pulled free.

Penetrating oil and cursing freed up the wheels---still junk--but working junk.---Mike---
