Triple Pane Windows - Worth it?

Some manufacturers are making triple pane windows now. They even offer an option of in-window blinds that sit in the third pane. Are these windows worth the extra $$$ or can a double pane window perform better?

Whether or not they are worth it depends on a lot of factors, including the location of your home, goals for the project, cost to upgrade, etc.... The performance is indicated by the u-value. Generally triple pane will be better in this regard, but there are some very high quality windows out there that have better ratings with double pane than others with triple.

Yep, lot of variables. The most important he mentioned is the actual U factor. But in general, triple pane is only economically better in the far north cold climates.

+1 to both of this window jokers. :whistling2:

Is it worth it, can be. If opting for triple pane windows cut into the construction budget that made you then choose a 2x4 wall and R-13 vs. a 2x6 and R-19, then no.

If it cuts into the budge where you only blow R-30 in the attic vs R-50, then no.

Triple pane is a great option if you can swing it and given the impact of the thermal weak spot in the wall assembly with a double pane, it can have a greater than perceived impact.
