I have a pella double casement window. One of the windows opens and closes fine, the other is stuck in the closed position. Pella sent me a new locking mechanism, but I can't get to the one that's stuck closed in any obvious way. Looking for any tips.
The mechanism looks something like the picture below. Forget about the left part, just the two pieces labeled Top End and bottom end. When you raise or lower the lever on the inside of the window those metal bars slide up and down and move the locking hooks into closed or open position. My problem is that when I push the lever, the locking hooks don't release from the closed position. The locking mechanism is located on the center frame, and the hooks catch a latch in the window. I tried to jimmy a thin screwdriver into the slot between the window and the center frame to force the hooks down, but could not push it down. Any other tips before I start pulling pieces of the center frame off?
