Should foam be used when installing vinyl replacement windows?
My house had 6 windows blown out in the May 20th tornado that hit Oklahoma. I'm now contacting contractors to get them replaced. The first guy I talked with said he did not use foam. He said caulking the inside and outside is all that matters.
I have some more contractors lined up to give me an estimate and I would like to know the proper way they should be installed. Based on videos I've watched and from reading some posts here, it sounds like low expansion foam isn't a requirement, but it's recommended.
I think that your interpretation is spot-on CC, not necessarily required but definitely recommended in most cases. Generally it is the old-timers that are set in their ways that don't like the stuff. These are the same guys that rave about it once they make the switch and get good at using it.
