Our closer screws have come out and I wondered if "wood putty" would help? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Tap any split wood back into place---brush on wood glue--when dry use a hard putty like Plastic Wood or Durham Water Putty--

When dried and sanded reinstall the bracket using 2 1/2" screws --they will go past the damaged wood and grab the 2x4 stud behind it.

As others have mentioned, the answer depends on whether the closer has come off of the door or the jam. If the screws need to go back into wood, go with Oh'mikes advise. If the screws pulled out of the door itself (need to go into metal) there are a couple of options. You could try a larger thread self tapping screw, or you could find some kind of epoxy (maybe JB Weld?) and fill the screw holes, then drill them out at a slightly smaller diameter than the screws.....which I would replace regardless..

oh, and the simple answer is that wood putty will not work on a metal door.

Metal storm door -
Closer/safety spring -
We carry nuts, bolts, washers/lock washers (brass, aluminum, stainless steel)
Secure the bracket to the door - bolted through the door -
Not with the surface mounted screws, supplied with the door.
If it's pulled out of the door jamb (wood probably) -
2 1/2 to 3 inch screws (not the screws supplied with the door).
(I know - the outside of the door is not going to look as "pristine" and
"pretty" with those "nasty" bolt heads there - wait tell you see what
your nice Pella/Andersen/Larson... whatever... storm door looks like
when the wind whips it around and smashes it!)
