Rust on door closer

In winter I keep getting some rust on the storm door closing mechanism. Anyone have any suggestions on preventing that? I realize its due to condensation/moisture.

Replace it.

I can't afford to. Do you have any other suggestions? Put some Polyurethane on the closer to protect it. Obviously air in the house is leaking past the main door and getting trapped between storm and regular door. I can't seal it anymore than it is. The main door needs replacing but I just don't have the money.

A new closure is only ten bucks.

I know that but a new closer is also metal and its going to rust again. I'm trying to prevent it in the first place.

When you don't have $10.00 it may as well be $100.00.
Clean it off with steel wool or scotch bright, fine sand paper. Place some Vaseline or such on it. It can't hurt.
