Replacment Window HELP!!
Are those vinyl or aluminum?....
The ideal install would be new construction, however it would require both siding cut-back or removal, as well as sheet rock cut back (the new jamb depth will almost certainly be larger). Not an easy DIY proposition.
The alternative method would be to down-size your new window, install it inside those sheet rock returns, and install some trim (typically qtr round) around teh inside to cover the edge of the window. On the outside, if that is a flanged vinyl window, you can run a sawzall between the siding J and the window to cut the nailing fin. You will be left with some ugliness on the outside with the window being smaller, so you'll have to fill that in with something. Pros bend up aluminum coil, but I'm not sure if you have access to the tools or experience to do that. You'll also need to install a drip cap at the top of the opening.
Any way that you go about it, it is not a simple "pocket replacement" install. Pocket refers to the 3 1/4" jamb space between the interior and exterior stops on a typical wood window.
