Replacing Andersen windows without andersen windows.

I have 20+ year old Andersen windows and I have to replace one casement window from woodpecker damage. Can I replace this window without an Andersen window? Would I need to rebuild the inside trim that encloses the old Andersen window? Unfortunately, I can't afford Andersen at this time and need to replace this window before the winter.

How bad is the damage. There are epoxy kits for repairing wood that work fairly well. Check paint depts. of big box, hardware stores.

If the damage is bad, and on the sash, you could replace the sash with a vinyl replacement window. And it might even be possible to get a replacement sash from Andersen.

Yes, you certainly could replace it with any window you choose. However, if the damage is only to the sash (part that opens), the simplest thing to do would be to replace the sash with a replacement Andersen sash.
If you replace the ENTIRE window (frame and sash), then a lot of options would be available. It is somewhat likely you'd need to re-do your interior trim. That would depend on how similar your new window is to the old Andersen window. I don't think it would cost you a lot in materials to re-do the interior trim, but it definitely adds a lot of time.
Odds are, that if you replaced it with an entirely new Andersen window, most/all of that trim could be re-used, assuming it could be removed without damaging any of it.
Hope that helps and good luck.

How easy is it to get an replacement Andersen sash without a model number?? Last summer I had hail take out 1 pane of a double pane window. I have no local Andersen window dealer. Nearest one would be a Home Depot over 100 miles away. I found a form on the Andersen site called something like a Pre-Visit form. It tells me to look in the lower left corner of the glaze for ID information. This window is probably from 1977 or earlier. I know this window was professionally cleaned shortly after I purchased the house in 1987. I know they used a razor blade on the glaze and wonder if they scraped off the stamped ID information.

I know that a local glass company can replace the glass but they said they will use silcone instead of the factory plastic "trim" that covers the "seam" where the glass meets the sash. But I wanted to get a new sash for the replacment and then have the old one repaired for use in the future for a quick fix after the next hail damage.
