Replacement windows for old home.

The old home has wood all around including casing trim, how do I measure and how do I install repalcement windows. Do I have to remove all the framing trim

Here is one link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LUMWT0-PaQ ...but I'd recommend recommend watching a couple more to familiarize yourself with the process. There are also step by step diagrams out there, as well as instruction that will come with the window- although those usually assume a base of installation knowledge.
Key points: -Measure accurately
-Get the window installed square (check reveals)
-Make sure that it is properly insulated, flashed, and sealed

Yep, that's how they do it. Measure, order, set, seal. Not a whole lot to it with insert replacements.

I don’t like relying on caulk as the primary defense against the weather.

The ONLY time I’ll use inserts is when retaining the sloped sill and trim details of a old home is the primary goal.
