Replacement Windows

Hello All,

First time member and I'm torn between the Anderson 400 Tilt Wash windows and their subsidiary American Craftsman ( a vinyl replacement ) - that is also sold at Home Depot.

My issue is that there are a few windows in the house that have box air conditioners, and being that the Anderson is a wood frame window, I'm afraid that the weather elements - rain, etc. will then ruin the inside of the window when it's open. I'm sure that I can fashion a support to hold the bottom of the A/C when it's placed in the window.

Is there any means to protect the inside side jambs and bottom of the window when the unit is in place?

Should I coat the wood with a sealer?

Otherwise the vinyl replacement appears to be the alternate choice.

By the way, this is a cool site.

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?

The 400 series in this case is a vinyl clad wood. No additional sealer is required on the sills, jambs, or exterior surfaces.

If you are getting water to the inside of the home, the air conditioner and trim kit was not properly installed.

Those are also two considerably different windows from a quality standpoint.

If vinyl is deemed to be suitable, I highly suggest that you look at other brands or if you are considering a DIY option, the Simonton equivalent also at Home Depot.
