Reinstalling a retrofit window
Anyone know if it is very difficult to reinstall a retrofit window? Lowe's installed a window and it is leaking on the inside when it rains. It was a while ago they installed it so it isn't under warranty anymore. It doesn't rain a whole lot in San Diego so we didn't notice it quick enough.
I've actually installed 3 other retrofit windows in my house...none of which leak. Is this simply a matter of pulling the window out, cleaning off everything real good, and just installing it the right way?
Thanks for any advice!
Where is the window leaking?
Reinstalling the window is no big deal if you pull it out carefully. Cleaning off the caulking is probably more of a hassle.
The windows is leaking from the top part of the sill. I did recaulk it on the outside several months ago when I noticed it leaking due to a gap in the outer caulking. The stucco is a bit concaved at one spot which did make it tricky. The sealer on the inside of the fin must also not be doing anything good.
I did find out a while back that lowe's fired the company that installed my windows and now I know why.
What "W-on-W" says!
Use the right caulk!
"Quad" - "Solar Seal 900" (if you can find it)
Maybe, put a metal "pan" in under the bottom of the window.
Remember - "Drain Plane"!
