Refinishing Old Doors

I am refinishing an old door with moldings...I have stripped and sanded the door but I am having a hard time getting all the old paint out of the moldings and corners...any helpful thoughts?

Thank you!

Paint remover can work wonders. I like the gel kind. READ the directions first, not all paint removers work on all kinds of paint. Some are quite toxic and must be used outdoors. Some recommend use of a NIOSH mask while using the product.

Lots of autp parts stores and hardware stores have a cheepo bin full of import tools near the front door. I've seen those type brushes in the bins.

Did you plan to paint or stain it?

I refinished a couple of old panel doors in our last home. I thought I got all of the old paint off. Luckily it was an old stone farmhouse so a rustic look was O.K.
If you are planning on staining it, be meticulous. The tiniest bit of old paint left in the grain will stick out like a sore thumb once you stain.

Also be very careful with metal tools if you use chemical strippers. It will be easy to gouge the wood. I used an old nut pick or a tiny flat head screwdriver to get the tight corners.
