Re-staining an interior door frame
 

I am replacing my sliding closet doors in an existing frame. The frame is already stained and finished with what was most likely the original stain from when my house was built 50 years ago.

What is the best way to take the frame down to bare wood so that I can re-stain it to match my new doors?

Random obital sander.

I don't own a power sander and I know they aren't very expensive, but the more I think about it, sanding the existing jamb just may not be worth the trouble. I'm probably better off just buying a new, unfinished oak jamb and saving myself the time of sanding and filling the old wood.
