pocket door

Will code (Colorado) allow a pocket door to be installed at the top of a stairway that is from a lower living space to an upper level living space? It is not an access door from the outside into the inside, just complete inside access. Currently there is a hollow core door that swings into the hallway and want to stop accidental injury when coming up stairway into the hall. Thanks.

The only thing I can find in 2009IRC.........there must be a landing where a door opens onto stairs. I would think a pocket door is preferrable to a hinged door. The tendency with a hinged door is to walk thru as the door is opening. With a pocket door, you can't really get thru until the door is open, allowing some warning of what is ahead.

If the door swings onto/into the stairs - not a good idea!
At all!!
If the door opens into a hall/living space - not, so bad.

The only reason I can think why you wouldn't want one is it would be easy to wander into the stairwell and fall if the door was left open, while you would have to go around, becoming conscience of where you are, a swinging door.
Otherwise, I think everybody would be putting them in at the stairs, because it is a sweet concept. Those doors all always in the way.
