pet door into garage?

Just bought a new house with an attached garage, gonna put a pet door on the garage man door for the dogs o get out into the dog run, but was wondering if I could do the same for the house door into the garage, then they could go out whenever they want.
My thoughts are that it's not a great idea as the pet doors probably aren't sealed 100% and therefore exhaust gas will have a way to get into the house.
The door is up a set of stairs so it's not on the ground and co is heavier than air?
It'd be nice if they could come and go as they please but it's not that big of a deal if we have to let them into the garage.

Here's the pet door I think I'm getting, 3 flaps, does that make a difference?

Not just that but that door (and wall) from the garage to the house should be fire rated. Cutting a hole in it would compromise that.

They may be out there but I've never heard of a fire rated pet door.

Keep in mind that Pet doors are an easy way for someone to break in. Make sure it is one with the lock on it, that has to be activated by the collar the dog is wearing.a

You can always mount a camera in the garage, that would allow you to see the pet door and maybe the entry to the house and garage door. Or even a Pan & Scan like the Foscam FI-9826W IP Camera. It will allow you to zoom in if you want.

I think you want some involvement with what your dogs do. I'd opt for letting them out when they ask. If dogs can come in, so can other animals. What happens if birds learn to follow in?

I would also be concerned with fumes that communicate as well.

Agree. Putting it through a fire door into the house isn't a good idea. I partitioned off a small part of my garage with a door in it, then put a doggy door through the outside wall of the house to the dog run. That way, I could leave the dogs outside, and they could come inside the little room in the garage to get out of the weather, but I know what you are trying to accomplish. I'd just let them in and out of the interior door and let them go outside through the doggy door.
