Options for mounting guard rail on 2nd story door

I've got a 2nd story door that leads to nowhere; no deck. I need to install a guard rail. It will be two horizontal 2x4s with standard slats.

I'm looking for an alternative method of mounting the 2x4s to the house so I don't have to drill into the aluminum wrap around the door trim. The 2x2s will be screwed onto the 2x4s. I'm thinking of drilling immediately outside of the door trim into the aluminum siding. There should be studs there. I'd prefer to drill into the 1987 siding rather than the recently installed trim wrap.

Thoughts?

Thoughts are to cut-away some of that siding so a cleat can be properly joined to the structure. Before you go off half-cocked maybe you should take this photo to your local Building Department Office and let them prescribe something acceptable according to local codes.

Putting it through the cladding is easier. Seems like the jamb is rotted in that door anyway so there is going to be much to save.

I am checking with local code.
In the meantime, what exacting is cladding.
The rotted jamb is attached to the double fence doors and would not be used as support.
