Old House Ext Door Gap
4 Attachment(s)
We have a 1910 Craftsman with an original front door. No doubt the rubble stem wall foundation has settled over time and created a 5/16" gap in the upper, knob-side corner. The lower corner and the full hinge-side have pretty much zero gap. I have verified that the door has not severely warped (there's a small, less than 1/8", bow on the door hinge side).

What's the best way to fix this? Should I pull off the stop and just re-install it to match the door? I'm leaning this way since I'd probably just remove all three to get a perfect fit and install weatherstripping at the same time (there is none now).

P.S. I know the paint is in terrible shape. It's next on the list after I get the mechanics straightened out.

Much simpler way is to add one of these.
Look at the Portaseal primed door stop.

There's also another one that is aluminum strips with the seal already on it that both Lowes and HD have.
Predrill the holes or it may split the wood.

Moving the stop you have now may do more harm then good.
It still would not give you an air tite seal and may cause the door to not let the latch bolt and dead bolt to latch.
Make sure both are latched before installing the strips.

This is perfect, thanks! It's not stocked at my local HD-- only the horrible looking metal versions-- so I had no idea this was an option. My order is already in!
