new windows arrived with termites included???!!!

I don't think I've ever seen a live termite before the other day.. At least not one that I'd ever known of.

I got 3 custom double hung windows from T.M. Cobb. Once I installed and was sliding my sashes to verify I did a half decent job installing... little wings started falling out from between the sashes and then I found little bugs crawling around in the sashes.

I googled termites... and lo and behold... my new windows have termites

I plan to call TM Cobb and give them a bit of the business... but I was wondering if anyone has ever had this happen and if they ever had any success in getting some kind of termite extermination or something out of the company.

thanks

That’s a new one on me.

Did you get any pictures of this event? Are they still falling and crawling?

I doubt the critters came with the windows. That wood is usually kiln dried and treated with preservatives. I would suspect that you had termites in the framing and they were brought to the surface by the construction.

I find termites, active or old damage, more often than my customers would like, while installing door/windows.

The only way they are in the new windows is if they were not made from a preserved wood and were stored outside on bare earth for quite some time.

It is about 99.9% more likely that that they are already in the home per Bill's suggestion.
