Question

New pre-hung exterior door installed ... does this look right to you?

We're getting new siding, and in the process, have just had a new pre-hung Thermatru fiberglass door installed. I'm concerned that the aluminum sill is supposed to have more support than it does - currently, the aluminum sill protrudes about 1 1/2 inches from the support - I took a tape measure and placed it directly under it and slid it back until it bumped the house. The trim isn't complete yet, so there will be a 5/4 block of Azek placed underneath which will be flush with the surround trim, but for looks, not support.

Here is a photo illustrating the issue - there are 1 1/2 inches from the edge of that aluminum sill to the vycor flashing:

The edge of that sill is unsightly, too.

Here is a photo of the whole door:

And here is what the finished product should look like:

Any advice on how to improve the look of this? Is this an acceptable installation?

Thanks!
Jennifer

Looks pretty good so far, just make sure that the installer understands what the end product is supposed to look like and that you get what you paid for not what you think you paid for. That is where both you and the installer must come to an understanding before hand or neither of you will be happy.

Should be fine with the Azek installed.

Could be behind the foam depending on how they did it or behind the Azek.

I see nothing wrong with it, I use vinyl lumber all the time under threshold on the outside and never had any trouble.

Looks like a proper install to me also.
That's gonna be a nice front entry.

Ask installer what he's using to fill the nail holes on the Azek and get back to us.
