Need advice on modding gate/entry door

Does anyone have any ideas for modding a prefabricated exterior/interior door to serve as a gate?

I've asked around and locally people are charging $1200-$1800 to make the gate from scratch which is a bit much for me atm.

Below is the existing gate. I believe it's an interior door (it's a hollow core) with the panel cut out to accommodate the glass; maybe cut short from the top. It's in bad shape (rotting around the bottom). I'd like to buy and modify another, two panel door (glass to be retrofitted in each), roughly same height, that will last 7-10 years.

Does anyone have any ideas on what door to look for and/or how to best go about the mod? Anyone care to link me to a door that might serve this purpose? Thanks in advance!

That looks like a standard front door--measure the height and width--

I'm confused, there is no such thing as an interior/ exterior door. It's one or the other.
What in the word are you talking about when you say you want a gate? Do you want a new door suggestion or added security with a real gate?
#1 any door painted a dark color and has direct sun will fail. There's a sticker on any new door stating that.
Want a trouble free door? Then order a fiberglass, door with vinyl jams, adjustable sill.
I took a second look. Not sure why some one installed that door there. And yes a custom made Iron gate would cost about $1000.00.
I'll look around and see if I can find one cheaper.

Thanks Joe...

I'm not sure what the difference is construction-wise, but if it will last 7-10 years outdoors, either will work for me.

I'm looking for the same setup really; another door to replace the existing one (I call it an entry "gate" due to it's size - I'll measure it to be sure but it can't be more than 5'8"-6'0" high).

Thanks Joe! Btw, the $1000+ was for a "wood" door.

If you were change it some you could use a standard door. Look for one made of Cypress, Mohoganey, IPE or Cedar.
