Are you just replacing a door that's already there?
Is it the same size?
What type siding do you have?

Got a picture of the outside so we can see how involved it's going to be?

sorry dont have a pic and i just got home from work and its dark
what i was thinking, take angle grinder and cut around original brick mould
take brick mould off
take sawzall and cut old door out
make a piece of flashing for the threshold
caulk the hell out of it
then dry fit the door
caulk the hell out of the flashing where it meets the door threshold
take door out of frame
centre door frame in opening
shim the hinge side using 3 inch screws in the hinge holes
put door back on hinges
shim the latch side so the reveal is even
shim the top so the reveal is even
put brick mould on
caulk the brick mould and outside of door frame
stuff in fibreglass insulation between fall and frame
put new casings on
put locks on
i think thats it

installing pre hung exterior door

We replaced our front door last year and back door this year. I would not suggest removing the door from the frame. It helps keep the frame true & square. I'm not saying you couldn't make it work with removing the door from the frame but with my experience it would have made things more difficult. Also a suggestion, before you go putting in a bunch of screws, just start with a few...and make sure the door still closes completely & evenly. Then when you're sure of that you can finish shimming & screwing. That's a mistake we made on our front door and not the back door.

Sorry, didn't notice your fiberglass comment earlier - definitely go with foam. We used the door & window stuff in the blue can. Also have a tube of caulking available because it's nearly impossible to get that foam into a crack/opening that's smaller than the width of the straw on the can.
