How to tape window sill after new window installation?
Our previous builders installed our new windows without putting tape
on the window sill bottom as the instructions suggested. The tape is supposed to go up the sides about 6". I'm wanting to put the tape down without totally removing windows. Will just removing shims allow me to apply tape properly? How do I remedy this situation? |

How to tape window sill after new window installation?
if your referring to a peel and stick membrane installed as a drip pan . simply removing the shims is useless. the whole point of silpan is to be halfway on hte rough sil then lap down out over the building paper . its purpose is to stop water that does get in and leaks to be allowed to get back out without the rough sil absorbing it.. water does get in one way or another and will become more common the older a window gets.. either the window will leak or condensation forms on it when the glass is cold then runs off onto the sil
soo..... if you want to do it still the window has to come out |

Is that picture of the window inside? If so there is no window tape ever installed inside, it goes outside.

Yes, the peel and strip is what I'm speaking of. The windows exterior has been has been caulked, nailed and taped on the exterior. It's installed on the bare wood frame however.
What would you do in this situation? Leave it as is or remove everything and redo it? |

He made that rough opening a little to big.
Spray low expanding window foam. Add whatever materail that will be even to the bottoms of the window frames and even with the walls so you can have something to attach the jamb extentions to. |
