How to remove the Semco channel channel balance.

I have a Semco tilt out window that is 17 years old. How can I remove the balances without tearing out the plastic on the window?

If I recall, the plastic of the balance unit just snaps into a kerf in the wood. That said, I've never removed them with the intention of saving them, only during window replacement... As Joe suggested, contacting the manufacturer for instruction would probably be the best course of action if you are worried about damaging them during the removal.
