How Do I Remove The Security Bar From My Window?

Hello all,

My apartment windows have this security bar that prevents the window from opening fully. It only opens about 6 inches right now. The leasing office said I could take the bar out, but they just can't do it for me due to some old law. So, I'm wondering how I would get these things out. I'm guessing I need to find a tool that fits the circle screw head in the pictures, but I don't know what kind of drill bit that is. I have an electric drill and full drill bit set, but nothing that fits that odd screw. I'm guessing it's an odd screw for a reason - they probably don't want you to take it out. Anyone ever seen anything like this? Any advice is really appreciated!

Thank you,

Dave

Thanks for the reply! How do I know which spanner screwdriver bit I need though? There are so many options!

Thanks,

Dave

Cut a deeper screwdriver slot with a dremel tool and cut off wheel. Or, you can get them started a little by using a center punch and hammer, until you can get a vise-grip on them.

Most auto parts stores sell spanner wrenches with a variety of screw in tips---I don't know the cost,my set is old enough to vote---it doesn't get used very often.

Adam's way will work fine as well.

Most of the bits come as part of a kit so you are bound to get the size you need.

Out here on the ranch I'd probably drop the long legs of two hex keys in the holes, clamp the two together parallel and put a big ole screwdriver between and twist. I just can't make a 60 mile round trip for such miniscule things as special spanners.
