how do I adjust a commercial door closer?

I have one of those arm-elbow commercial door closers that acts like a shock absorber-closer. However it doesn't push the door all the way closed. There is a knob on it but no instructions. I'm cautious to touch it because I don't know what I'm doing. Any suggestions on how to get it to push the door all the way closed?
Thank you

Turn the knob and if the door closes faster you can either turn it more to make it faster or turn it the other way to make the door close slower. You won't need to turn it much, maybe an 1/8-1/4 turn.

+1

Think of that screw as the dampner on a shock. You are just adjusting the valving and speed.

Small adjustments go a long way as jiju mentioned.

Only a very old door closer will have a knob for adjusting the closing speed. Your door closer may have adjustment screws on either end, the top or the bottom. Some closers will have a cover that must be removed to see the screws and there may be four screws (spring strength, backcheck, closing speed, latching speed). Don't adjust the door to slam. It may injure someone and it will shake the screws loose from the other door hardware.
Other reasons the door might not close:
1. door binds on threshold or frame
2. door closer worn-out or not installed correctly
3. hinges worn, rusted, bent
4. etc....

The door is hitting the threshold and I'm going to try and sand it this week. The door is too heavy for me to take off myself (unless I can get my hubby to help). I took the plastic cover off and there is only one knob. There are no screws... I climbed up on a step stool and looked around.
I'll report back if I get it right!
Thanks!
