Hanging Exterior Doors


I have an old house and the exterior doors need replacing but the frames are fine can I just replace the doors with new ones

Can you, certainly, should you, it would not be my recommendation. If you measure CAREFULLY, a new door slab is not too difficult to install. But a prehung door has the extra benefit of having all new weathstripping and an energy efficient sill. New trim on the insterior and exterior are usually needed, but while you are at it, the air space around the door can also be insulated.

i completley agree with bill.... why spend money on just a new slab and then a couple years down the road have a leak which is because the frame is starting to get bad and allowing water into the house.. do it right replace the whole thing

ya see some pretty junky wood on most pre hung door frames these days,i'd take an old solid frame with an interlocking weather stripping any day

Most of the older stuff is certainly better than most of the newer stuff.
