Garage door

Unintentionally tried to close my garage door using my Automatic Garage Door Opener (AGDO) while the hatch of my van was up. Hatch is okay. Garage door is not. Garage door can be closed by hand. It can be opened with the AGDO. But it CAN NOT CLOSE using the AGDO. It goes down about 18 inches before one side seems to "catch" and the door begins to twist. At this point one of the overhead tracks bows out about 2 inches. The rollers seem to be okay. (maybe a broken baring?) The cables are still attached (but loose?). Springs are still attached. The door itself looks fine when it's closed - no bulges, no gaps between panels. I was a real idiot to get myself into this jam and I want to make sure that I do whatever I can myself before I call someone in.

Desa,
Sounds like you bent the track possibly and had one or both of the cables jump off the drums. Without seeing a pic it's hard to tell. If the door isn't creased, a good garage door guy should be able to get you going again, without spending a lot of money. Basically a glorified service call.

Yep, check that the cables are on the pulleys, check hinges, rollers in the track, look for something bent. Disconnect the door from the opener and operate the door manually. It should go up/down easily. You should be able to let go at about mid point and the door will stay. I suspect you will find there is a catch in the travel where it is locking up. Careful examination should reveal the culprit.

Garage door

I am trying to figure out why my garage door liftmaster 1/2 HP is not working. I opened it up and all the wiring looks sound. When I hit the wall button to open the door the light in the back comes on and there is a clicking noise. I did notice that the sensors at the base of the garage door are not functioning. There is no green or red light coming on on the units. Will the sensors not working cause the whole liftmaster to stop working? Or is it something else that I need to look at? Please help!

Without the sensors working in the circuit, the opener will not operate. Check your wiring at each sensor, make sure everything is intact. Check the connections at the opener and make sure everything is connected. If all your wiring is good, you may have a problem with the circuit board inside the motor head. It basicall controls everything. How old is the opener and what model is it?
