Framing door from scratch
I was told from builder that door to the garage from inside house is ready to install. That means frame was done inside drywall. So I went ahead to crack the drywall from the garage side, leave inside drywall as is.
And I realized that there is no frame. I noticed no header up there. There is just 16"apart stud. Now I have outside drywall open and I gotta get this donn somehow. I NEED HELP!!!!! Can I knock down middle stud and build trim stud and header and so on? Kinda I think backward. Than my rough open will be too narrow. What should I do to get my door done? |
Going to have to cut the sheetrock out far more then one stud bay.
It's easyer to cut it from floor to ceiling, much easer to patch a new piece in. http://www.ezhangdoor.com/properly-f...-rough-opening |
To determine what/if you need a full-size header, you need to figure out if the wall is loadbearing or not. If not loadbearing, then a 2x4 on the flat is fine. If loadbearing, then you will need to frame a loadbearing header.
