Finding window screen for garage window

I was wondering where I might find a window screen for this garage window, or will it have to be a custom fit screen?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5u0clzmi5h...agewindow.jpeg

measures about 17" or 18" width, and 35" height for the screen area.

On a related note, browsing Home Depot and Lowes, I didn't find any ready made window screens for replacement. It seems screens come with new windows only, and they only have replacement screen (doors) for sliding patio doors. Is that typical of these stores, and maybe they only offer screens if you go for their (custom or not?) install services? I'm in northern California by the way.

You are not going to find any ready made replacement window screens because there are practically possibilities in different sizes.
In San Jose try Yelp

Check your yellow pages or Google 'replacement window glass San Jose' and it brings up many companies, most of which also offer replacement screens.

I'm not sure if you are interested or not, but those stores sell all you need to make your own.

I think I noticed rolls of mesh screen that I can use to make them, but I didn't notice the screen frames (or their parts), either they didn't carry, stored in another aisle, or I overlooked them. Are those available and sold as individual side pieces you have to cut to size then construct together to form a square or rectangle frame?

I was wondering from my inexperience, why are windows unlike doors not standardized with common sizes and ready made screens? Is there a certain logic behind this?

Because we are all free and can pick any size or style of window. that we like.

Thanks PaliBob, but why isn't that quite the norm for doors? Is it because of some federal regulations to have them meet certain criteria?

I assume there may be non-standard doors already in existence, but you do see standard stock and replacement doors at hardware stores and parts made for standard door sizes.

For windows, I only see stock windows (glass, frame, and screen together as a set) but no stock window parts by themselves. The only stock window assessories are blinds (some of which you can cut to size) and curtain rods and curtains.

Wonder why they don't do same approach for door accessories like you need to buy the whole sliding glass door set to get the sliding screen door, or else contact some sliding glass door installer, rather than offer replacement screen doors at the hardware store.

Windows do have "standard" sizes just like doors do. The differences come in the hardware and accessories. The similarity in size comes in the dimension of the hole in the wall it goes into, the rest is where it gets unique. Manufacturers all have different frame styles, profiles, and dimensions and that, in turn, varies the screen and glazing dimensions.

The "standard" window sizes is where you get the window blind "in-stock" sizes from.

I understand some Ace hardware stores will make screens the size you need, if you have any in your area drop by and ask. And yes, HD and Lowes also carry the frame pieces that you cut with a hacksaw to the needed size, in ours here in Texas the frame pieces are in the same aisle as the screen rolls (we rescreened several screeens last summer but chickened out on making new frames even though a couple has some warpage).
