exterior door trim
I've been reading these forums for awhile and they have been REALLY helpful in the past with some binds i've been in. This last issue however I'm really stuck.

I've recently replaced my main exterior door and went from the typical 36in door with side window to one without the side window. On the outside I was able to trim up with pvc molding. The inside however is a different story. I'm left with about an 8in gap on each side where new drywall has been hung. The old walls are covered in plaster. I'm fully aware that plaster isn't the easiest work to blend into existing material. So I'm open to suggestions on what to try. I've visited all the local hardware stores and wasn't able to locate a piece of interior trim wide enough to cover the area on each side.

You guys are my last resort before calling in a handyman

Posting a picture would sure be a big help.
Did someone shim out the new drywall so it's even with the old plaster wall?

there is the option of instead of trying to find a piece of trim to make panels on both sides. You could make them out of any kind of plywood ( cherry, oak, teak, mahogany etc) and then trim that out with a moulding all around it. These panels could be stained or painted to match or accent what you have. Just a thought. You could even use mirrors. Don't limit your imagination
