A lot of work... More than likely you'll need to re-frame the opening, possibly including a new header. I would just order a 34" door.

It is very likely that you will need to re-frame the entire opening and install a new header beam as HomeSealed discussed. This will require drywall removal, new painting, possible relocation electrical, etc, etc, etc.

All of these are time and financially consuming and as AirDrie indicated above, may be altogether impossible.

It is very likely that the 34" door will be cheaper all around.

just tell them the door size and which side your hinges are on. any competent store will guide you through this.

You'll be fine on the width regardless, but you'll want to double check the height. Just give them the exact height of the slab and they can tell you if it is standard or needs a small cutback. You can usually make a standard height fit, but it can be a bit more work, especially if it is on a concrete stoop. It typically costs me around $75 to cutback the height, but in the cases where it is necessary it saves more than that in labor.
