Door from Sunroom to Living Room, Can't use Prehung

I tried to upload a picture, but it wouldn't let me. Anyway, my husband and I are buying a house next week. It's a 1930s house with most of the original details restored and preserved. Including the door that leads from the sunroom (which leads to the outside front) to the living room. It is a standard wood door that is mostly glass. The entry door to the sunroom is also most glass (REAL glass for both). I just don't like that (for safety reasons) and want to put something sturdier in its place. I want that door to withstand a blow or two before someone could break through it (right now, you could just run right through it in one go), but I also want it to let some light through. Pretty much all the modern doors' windows are that crazy hard plastic so those would work just fine. Here's the problem:

It's an old house. There's no door frame like we have today. It's plaster with 2x4s and jams and then beautiful molding all the way around (except the bottom, obviously). There's no way to remove it without damaging the molding and it matches the rest of the house. I'd rather just get a slab door and install it. But no one makes interior doors with non-glass windows. Also, no one makes entry doors that aren't prehung. Does anyone have any suggestions? We want to keep it on the cheap. Husband can install both slab and prehung, so as long as its normal installation, we can handle it. It doesn't have to be an entry door, just one that isn't easier to come through than paper.

Thanks!

You need to go to a real lumberyard and have it ordered. Not home depot or lowes. You can usually get any door you want hung or not.

Like he said---look up millwork or windows and doors in the yellow pages---custom sizes are also easily available----

Even Menards can order a door like you want.

I don't understand your post: You say that there is no frame, but then that there are jambs? Jambs would constitute a frame unless it (the slab) is directly mounted to the rough framing. Secondly, most modern doors to not come with hard plastic for glass, they come with tempered glass. Based on your comments, it might be wise to consult a professional for this project.

Yeah, I really wanted to post a picture because this thing is crazy. I meant ď2x4s AS the jams.Ē Itís literally just 2x4s, which are clearly just the 2x4s used to frame the wall because they go all the way up, and then molding around it. Someone just left a hole for the door in the wall framing, attached a door to the wall framing, and the put molding around it. So thereís no frame to pop out. Yes, thereís a frame in the strict sense, but clearly I canít just pull out the 2x4s that are holding up the wall. And the problem is you would have to pull those out to put in a standard prehung door because the opening is the size of a standard door.
I have resigned myself to having to order something custom. I was really hoping there was some way to order a prehung and then just remove the door and put the door up itself, but no one seems to think thatís a good idea.
As for the glass vs. plastic, Iíve been looking at those doors that have windows in them that look just like regular windows in your house and theyíre all plastic. I have not been looking at those really nice entry doors with tempered glass with pretty designs. Like I said, trying to do it on the cheap (like less than $400 for everything). I havenít seen anything with tempered glass that is in that price range.

You'll have to show me a picture of what you are referring to with plastic, because every door at a box store or lumberyard that I've seen comes with a glass window.
Your best course of action would be to order a custom sized prehung door, IMO. It will be smaller since the existing slab is just hanging in the rough opening, but that is really the only choice given that you won't want to reframe that opening. This situation as your describing it sounds like somebody hacked it at some point in time. You would not have had a door original to the home that is just a slab hung in the RO. At least that is not something that I've ever seen. Maybe in a 150yr old farm house or something like that.
