door sealant before trim

I haven't installed trim on my entry door and was wondering if i should put Quad sealant between the jamb and the wall opening before installing trim or is it sufficient to only apply a bead around the trim once installed.

Thanks

Do both.
If it was mine I would not use Quad though on this one. Reason being your going to have a mess trying to clean it up off of the brick wall.
I'd use Alex 230 instead.

Spray foam or backer rod and sealant the larger gaps.

You will make a mess trying to seal the larger gaps with sealant alone.

Either or.

Any closed cell, window and door specific (i.e. low pressure) works great here.

But only if there's room for it. Looks like somehow you ended up with tiny gaps. But your there and we only have a picture to go by.

+1

That is why I said for the larger gaps. There may be more space between he framing and the door than is being shown between the brick and the door.

I got ya, just did not want him to try and use the foam like it was caulking. I've seen DIY's do it before, gee that was fun trying to get it all off.
On customer had tryed to use it to stop a leak in a sink drain, now that was a sight. They had put the tapered sealing ring in backwards when the drain was installed.

We have those tapered tips as well. You can get the foam into nearly any gap with those.

Hilti foam gun does miracles in what a teeny bead it lets you apply. Like literally 1/8"

but the needle tip lets you get the foam deeper in the crack instead of expanding out past the frame which after it hardens needs to be trimmed back sometimes falling out in the process
