Door bottom channel selection question

Hi guys,

I plan on weatherstripping bottom of the front door. I'm gonna have a channel installed and have 2 choices there:

#1 - non-adjustable type installation (picture #1) where rubber insert is basically attached to the channel and trimmed to desired height.

#2 - an adjustable type installation (picture #2) where second channel is attached to the first one with a few glides and rubber insert is attached to the same 2nd channel. That allows for the rubber insert to be replaced and the entire height to be adjusted w/o taking the door off the hinges.

Our front door faces a very busy street and my concern that traffic might result in some vibration/rattle with choice #2. Am I correct to assume that might be the case, and if so would #1 be the best option? Which option would you guys recommend?

Just trying to run it by someone. Thanks in advance.

I'd be installing an adjustable threshold and a fixed sweep on the door.
(Really I'd be looking to move if I had to deal with something like that.)

It depends. Sometimes we get a car stopped at the light with base going crazy and I feel front door vibrating on touch. That's what basically got me thinking about the choice of channel. Thanks.
Poor home construction, along with the door was probably not installed correct to begin with. Even if a car stops at the light in front of your house, the door should not rattle.

You can also try the retro weatherstripping, that fits against the door at the frame, and see if that also helps to stop it from rattling.

Also bet that there is no kind of insulation around the frame, which would also allow noise through.

Hehe, it's a 120 years old house. :) I live in the city and our row house is close to the stop light. Door doesn't actually rattle it's just when car music's blasting you can feel it vibrating on touch.

Windows on Wash, thanks for the confirmation/suggestion. I'd like to keep an original threshold if I can and install a door sweep instead. I'm just concerned that an adjustable channel, or rather metal guides, could rattle when pushed hard by street noise. I could leave some slack for the rubber insert to account for seasonal play perhaps.

Thanks guys.

If it is due to music, that is another story. Decoupling it from the construction of the home may help, but also putting in Gap Window foam, which actually flexes more than the Big stuff does, can help to quiet some of that noise. Also having a insulated Storm door also helps.

We get a idiot down the street that has pipes on his Harley and every day at the same time, he rev's it up as he goes down the street, so no matter what we have done to keep down the noise, that is the only vehicle that we have a problem with.
