custom sized closet door

We accidentally crushed a closet door during remodelling.

It's just a tiny closet in the hallway.

The width of the jam is 17 3/4". So a standard, cheapy 18" door won't fit.

I am thinking that the easiest option is to buy one of these cheap, hollow-core 18" doors and rip 3/8" off both sides. Then, I'd have to rout out spots for the hinges, and then pray that there's enough material left to screw the hinges to?

Any advice or warnings?

Is a cheap hollow core door what you want?

Look at the door from the top and see how thick the edge is---you may not have enough wood (or pressed fiber board) to hold screws--

You might consider using a solid door--
