cost to repair home windows?

I have 5-6 windows in my house which need to be fixed - the glass is fine, but the ropes and weights should be fixed - I don't want the actually windows replaced, just fixed. I have no idea of where to start, or how much it should cost. Any thoughts?

Why not just do it yourself, then the only cost is some sash cord.
You do know by keeping windows that old it's costing you a ton of money in added heating and cooling cost, right.

There is an access panel toward the bottom of the track that you remove to service the counter weights. Once you get it open it is pretty easy to replace the cord.

Not necessarily Joe up there they usually use storm windows which create an air space between the glass.

Storm Windows don't do anything for cold infiltration thru the sash weight pockets. It can be more than just the uninsulated space. Often you get a cold draft thru the pocket.

There are several sash weight elimination kits out there that eliminate the need for the pocket, allowing you to insulate it. I would talk to a local window company about them.
