Cost to enlarge an interior door from 30" opening to 36"

My garage door is only 30" wide and I want to enlarge it to 36" wide. I have paneling on one side ( which will be gone in few months and replaced with sheetrock so inside doesn't need to be repaired just covered up w/ old paneling) and sheetrock on the other side. I have one electrical light switch that will need to be relocated.

I will buy the door & frame.

What would a fair cost be for labor?

I have a never ending list of home improvements in my future. This is at the top of the list. I have large furniture to move around and instead of walking out the back of the house around the front to the garage I really want to make life easy. Thanks

Nobody can really answer that here, labor cost can vary greatly from one area to the next. Your best bet is to get a few local bids.

Chances are the cost of install will be more than the door.

I would contact a couple of door and window businesses and get a quote.

You can get the same thing at HD...but typically they just farm it out to a list of contractors they use.

This will probably take one competent carpenter a full day to accomplish. The framed header will need to be enlarged, meaning a temporary support wall might be needed. Remove old door, install new door and hardware. Any finish carpentry/drywall/paint will make it take longer. If you know what hourly rates local carpenters charge, this will probably give you a general idea.

Best idea is to get a couple quotes. Just too many variables to give accurate pricing.
