cords broken on vinyl window

Good Evening: I have a window cord problem. Both of the cords supporting the lower window have broken (see photo). Now the lower window is slammmed shut. This is a vinyl window so I do not think it uses weights. It must be that a spring type mechanims from above that applies.

I am wondering how difficult this is to repair?

Well it's not a fun job and there's different springs for different sized windows.
Happen to know the brand?
Most often you remove the sash, snap out the two side panels then the head panel to reveal the balancer.
There should be some numbers on the balance to ID it.

Its an Andersen window.

Pretty straightforward fix if you are marginally handy.

Yes; it is an Andersen window ~ 1984 year. Thank you for the link. I will study it carefully.

I studied the video: it is very good. One question I did have was that should one use a lubricant on the window to assist it sliding up and down.

If so which one? The reason I ask is that presumably the window was stickking and that is why the cords broke.

If it was sticking it was not shimmed right or someone added to much expanding foam when they were installed.
Try to move the sashes from right to left. There has to be a little room for them to move.
If not try tightening the screws in the jamb a small amount to see if they move.
If not your going to have to remove the casing to see what's going on.

Clean the tracks. If they are sticky now, it is probably from accumulated debris.

Dry film silicon works well.
