Which caulk to use on outside north facing window?

I am replacing the caulk around my window because the installer from the previous owner/s did not do a good job caulking around the aluminum capping. There are gaps in the caulking. I noticed a bit of water coming through when I took off the trim on the inside while doing a room renovation.
I think whoever did the vinyl windows used silicone on the inside of the capping and whoever did the vinyl siding Outside of capping connected to J clips(?)used a different kind that is much harder and seems like it would stand up to weather a lot better but there was gaps in it.
I went to my local home store and picked up OSI Quad for window. Is this the correct kind to use or would be Silicone be better? Note that this window gets all the storm weather.

Thank you in advance

Quad is good stuff but somewhat difficult to work with if you haven't used it before. Do some test application on a flat board so you get used to it.

Difficult to use as in it comes out of the tube differently? Or just how it lays down?

Both.

Each sealant is different so get and extra tube to practice with and make sure the temperature on the tubes are consistent.

I'd suggest a decent caulking gun. There's a HUGE difference between a 3 and a 17 dollar gun.

Once you've used a decent gun you'll never go back to a cheapo again.

quad is definitely a better product than silicone. the problem with using silicone is that it wont stick to a dirty surface or anything with old caulking residue and be expected to actually stay there. ive seen more caulking jobs fail that were done with silicone than with a poly butyl type caulking

Thanks. I used the quad and it seemed to feel like a better product.

Quad is a high end caulk and is great for that application. You should be in good shape for a while.

the quad did go on a bit differently like some had said it would. It was cold outside as well as the cold metal. It's not the prettiest job but will last until I replace the windows.
