Best way to accurately measure window opening

Hello friends,

I want to replace the windows on my 60's built ranch home. I want to go stud-to-stud (not interested in replacement windows).

The question: What is the most accurate method of measuring the window opening?

Thanks!

Nick

Since you need to do it sooner or later anyway, I would pop the interior trim.

Hi DexterII<
Thanks for the quick reply.

Ok, so pop the trim then mean from the exposed studs, I assume.

If you are simply budgeting for this, I would suggest guestimating the size, and you should be able to get close enough for the dollars and cents to come out close, but if you are going ahead with it, and don't want to reframe anything, yes, this is what I would do. Stay tuned though, because there are a lot of smart people here, and someone may offer some better advice.

What type of windows do you have now, aluminum? Posting a picture inside and out would help.
