I know this topic has been done to death, but the frames that my windows are in dont seem to be like the ones most others have, so im curious what I am up against.
I have replaced all the windows in our house except the basement. All of those were in wood frames, and easy enough to do. These have me a little confused.
It looks like a four piece frame (t, b, left, right) with flanges on both sides of the foundation that recess into the wall. Im curious what it will take to remove the frame, and what I will have to do to prep for the new vinyl sliders.
From the outside, you can see the top flange is rusting away and has bent due to freeze/thaw. I have caulked it as a temporary measure until I had time to replace them.
From the interior, you can see the frame better
It looks like there were four pieces to the frame since they have flanges on both sides of the foundation. The metal seems to be about 1/8".
Whats the best way to remove these, and what will I be left with to prep for new windows? I dont want to use any sort of wood framing as these get pretty consistent south/west exposure and will be rained/snowed and in direct sun, etc.
